Ongoing Investigation of illegal deforestation activity within a National Park & Ramsar convention recognized and "protected” mangrove forest in the Dominican Republic. The mangroves are critical ecosystems that protect and recover the coastline and help adapt to climate change, as well as filter out the pollutants which enter the bay. Its also an estuary for most marine species of the Samaná Bay, and an endemic & migratory bird nesting site.Mangrove forests are among the most carbon-rich habitats on the planet. The protection of mangroves for mitigation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere as well as for multifaceted sustainable growth of ecosystems. Today, a considerable part of mangroves around the world are undergoing destruction, pollution and over exploitation.
